K is for ... Katie

Hey Alphabeters! College has been going exceptionally well, which goes a long way to explaining my absence. Knowing how long it's been since I last posted, I've been worried about what the heck to post next. We're just about finished with the letter 'K', don't worry. It's been around for awhile, hasn't it? This last post for the letter is a lovely one, don't worry!

Katie is the lovely authoress of North Wind Shore, an adorable little blog filled to the brim with photos and inspiring snippets, peeps into her life, and mixtapes. She's got a lovely personality, with a positive vibe that spins through each one of her posts.

All of her photographs are wonderful snapshots into her life, and while her posts are (mostly) short, all of them make you happy that you stopped by to read them. She doesn't apologize for her thoughts, but presents them as wonderfully wrapped presents you're glad to open up and admire.

So take some time this weekend to browse her lovely blog and drop a line. Let her know what you think.

I'm now off to bed. It's been a long week, very fun, but long, and I need sleep in order to tackle the mounting pile of homework that somehow has appeared when I had my back turned. Nobody said this college stuff was easy! My friends and I are hoping to shoot some soccer and rugby tomorrow after. I'll be sure to post up some pictures from that tomorrow evening.

K is for ... Karla's (Closet)

I'm a fan of clothes (really, what girl isn't at least a minor fan?), and I have a deep rooted appreciation for fun second hand/vintage finds (especially now since I've started college) and Karla's Closet is the place to look for fun vintage clothes. Full of bright pictures and dazzling colours, she makes putting together something fun and interesting, as well as easy.

She rocks the short hair in a way that I wish I could and the way she wears bright clothes, plus the list of who/what she's wearing. Which of her outfits is your favourite, Alphabeters? (Yes, I did just make that up, why do you ask?)

I'm off to bed. Orientation starts tomorrow at 9 o'clock. This time change seems to be killing me more than it should. And you'd think with all the dancing I've been doing I'd be wiped! Ah well, I'm sure everything will slip into place. :)

K is for ... Kahlil (Gibran)

Keep me away from the wisdom that does not cry, the philosophy which does not laugh and the greatness which does not bow before children

K is for ... Kenneth (Cole)

Since I graduated this year, my parents decided on my birthday and grad presents early. The grad present was a given: a new laptop so I could do all of my fancy photography things on it. Fun, and yet still practical. My birthday present, on the other hand was completely, a hundred percent practical. But that didn't mean we had to sacrifice on style or looks. My mother found this beautiful Kenneth Cole suitcase on sale, and I love it to bits and pieces.

Not only is it noticeable and easy to spot on the turnstiles at the airport (plus, have I mentioned how sleek and stylish I find it?) but it's also got loads of space! Which is perfect for moving a person across the country who finds herself with lots more stuff than she thought she originally had.
I'm off to bed: heading to Saskatoon tomorrow morning so I can get on my flight to Toronto on Saturday. I'm spending the day taking pictures with my new cameras and meeting up with friends for a last hurrah until Christmas time! Hopefully this fall will see me around here a whole lot more often!

Here's to hoping!

K is for ... (Yousuf) Karsh

Character, like a photograph, develops in darkness.

I have mentioned the talented Mr. Karsh in a previous entry. However, I feel he deserves a post of his own.

All of his pictures are black and white, which, to me, speaks a lot of the man. Yes, he started doing photography at a time when there wasn't much other choice, but he stuck with black and white until his death in 2002.

He was a master at lighting and there are very few of his pictures in which the lighting is not....perfect. (That's my opinion only.) Karsh loved hands, and you can tell, as most of his photographs have the subject's hands in the picture, doing some thing or another.

I'm not going to post a biography on him, there's Wikipedia for that. His works of art speak to me in ways that make me want to go out and be a better photographer. I think this says it all:

His extraordinary and unique portfolio presents the viewer with an intimate and compassionate view of humanity.

I think that that's something for everyone to want to achieve; in whatever they feel passionate about.

P.S. I'm really sorry about being so MIA lately. I know: no way to get a blog going if you're never around. I moved this summer, and have been working non stop for school in...sixteen days! So the rest of August will continue to be dedicated to the letter 'k', and as always: if you have anything that you love and want up on the blog, let us know!!!

xoxo

K is for ... Kat (Tingey)

This was in a Morgana fanmix that I downloaded awhile back, and I have NOT been able to stop listening to it. It wasn't until I went to youtube it that I found all the Twi-fail connections in it. But! It's still a beautiful song, and Tingey has a beautiful voice and the music is just wonderful and dramatic and she has an amazing range.

I know my posting has been sporadic, at best. It's not going to get much better: I leave tomorrow (at five in the morning! D=) to head to Spokane, Washington for ten days! However, once I get back I'll, hopefully, be posting more often!

K is for ... Katie [Melua]

Back in the day, when I used to buy CDs, I'd walk into my local music shop, head to the new singles rack and buy the first single that I picked up. Of course, sometimes I picked up singles I hated and never listened to again and sometimes I'd find gems; Katie Melua's single "The Closest Thing to Crazy" was one such gem. Four albums and countless singles later, I'm still a fan.

K is for ... Kiss (On My List) [The Bird and the Bee]

This is, hands down, my favourite cover of this song. It reminds me of rainy days and summer nights. Give it a whirl.
